This is TOTALLY me!

Triplets?!?!?!

Imagine my surprise! I never thought it would happen in a MILLION years! I must apologize for not writing very much lately, but we've been preparing for our newest arrivals. I must say, I didn't even realize what was happening until I saw them. Three little babies. I mean the nesting began REALLY early this time! I'm hoping we'll have at least one little girl in the bunch! Such a wondrous and adorable sight to see. Of course, there will be those three hungry little mouths to listen to, but when you're adorable...who cares!

Here's their first picture!!!

Ain't they precious?!?!? No, I'm not having the triplets! It's the momma cardinal that has decided to make her family's new home in the rose bush outside our back door! You silly people!

We think they hatched sometime on Tuesday, but they may have been there on the 19th. We're not exactly sure. They are actually becoming fairly used to us coming in and out of the back door. I'm surprised that she was able to sit in it long enough to incubate them since we are almost always right around the nest. At first, we thought that a bird had made the nest and then abandoned it, but then momma started hanging out more and more. She is fine with us walking around (within 4-5 feet) but if we go in the back door, she's gone. That was until yesterday. She's been gone quite a bit and daddy's been on duty.

I am impressed with the amount of attention that daddy has been showing to the little ones! He is quite the dutiful dad. I've been having a hard time getting a picture of him going into the nest because he is FAST! Gorgeous, but FAST! He is much more shy than momma is, and we've had to be really careful when we go in and out of the door while he's around. Momma still doesn't care if we are on the back patio, she's sticking by her kids!

Well, hopefully more pictures as they get bigger!!

(Edited 5/21)

Finally got a picture of daddy at the nest.
