I have noticed during the last month or so that the cleaner my house is, the harder I have to work in order to keep it that way. If I take (dare i say it) a day "off", the house is soon in disarray. How can this be? It's only ONE day? Surely, if I were to pass from this life into the next, SOMEONE would clean the house...right? There has got to be some state between spotless and pig sty that I can easily fit into and not have to work so hard. You know the space where it looks clean & smells clean; but if you were to have a party or gathering with lots of people, you'd want to tidy up a bit more? I guess living with boys means more work than usual, right? I mean, they are supposed to be messy...that's what boys do, they make messes. However, I find the AMOUNT of messes they make to be a bit much.
While having just finished cleaning one room and moving to the next, I find myself coming back into a room with toys and clothes and whatnot flung from one end to the other. Okay, I'm exaggerating a BIT.
When having just finished making my bed I leave only to find that children have decided MY bed is the "perfect hiding place" and now I must make it again.
After completing the very last of the laundry and planing only to have the clothes each of us have on in the laundry basket the next day, I find that SOME of the members of our family have decided that what they had on just wasn't comfortable enough to wear for the remaining 2 hours of the day before bedtime. Thus, they needed to change into an entirely new outfit, get too warm remove half of the outfit, and place it squarely in the dirty clothes hamper (or the floor which is always closer).
After washing the last dish in the sink and finally getting all of the counter tops spotless and tea, sugar, kool-aid, sauce, or any of the number of things that can't be wiped up immediately (why I'm not sure), someone in the house decides they need a snack or, what the hell, another meal. Thus, more dishes in my formerly clean sink.
No matter how much I dust, there is always more a split second after finishing.
Vacuuming with a dog and two cats is futile. There is ALWAYS hair somewhere.
Windows? Why bother!
These are all tasks that, as a stay-at-home mom, I am "in charge" of. Well, I want to speak with my manager! I want a raise! Paid vacation! Time and a half holiday pay! Overtime pay, yeah OVERTIME PAY! I want an hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks. Oh, and where's my health benefits? It's not like they can FIRE me....I am officially on strike!
Ok, maybe after the house is clean....AGAIN.
